COSMETIC DENTAL BRIDGES

What Is a Dental Bridge?: Click here to watch a video

Getting the perfect smile you’ve always wanted is possible. If you experience strain when chewing, discomfort when biting down, or have trouble speaking due to missing teeth, cosmetic dental bridges can help. Dental bridges are both a cosmetic and general dentistry solution. Our Randwick clinic uses dental bridges that are a cosmetic solution to close gaps between teeth, filling spaces with attractive, durable, and comfortable teeth. These bridges can be permanently positioned and can last for a long period of time if properly maintained.

You may be aware of the importance of your teeth to your appearance and that missing teeth can affect your general health. Your teeth work together for many daily functions from eating to speaking and with missing teeth you cannot do these things perfectly. Dental bridges improve these daily functions.

What are the advantages of dental bridges?
When one single tooth is lost, it is expected that five or more other teeth may shift or move. For this reason it is important to replace a missing tooth as soon as possible. Dental bridges may be the solution. Leaving the space may also cause other problems, teeth may drift into the space changing your bite, and this may result in a sore jaws, gum disease or tooth decay due to difficultly cleaning the teeth.

What are cosmetic dental bridges?
The dentist can attach dental bridges either permanently so that they are called fixed dental bridges, or so that they are removable, as in a denture. Dental bridges are false teeth that are supported by neighbouring teeth in order to replace one or more missing teeth. The dentist fuses the false tooth in between two cosmetic porcelain crowns which serve as anchors bridging them together. Fixed dental bridges can replace several teeth or just one tooth.

If you are missing a tooth or some teeth, porcelain dental bridges may offer the ideal solution. Our dentist offers cosmetic dental bridges that provide a natural appearance, reducing the patient’s risk of gum problems and future bite difficulties. Dental bridges also eliminate the possibility that your remaining teeth could shift into the gap left by a missing tooth.

Dental bridges that are cosmetic can be an excellent solution because they look and feel like the natural teeth. Dental bridges are used to aesthetically eliminate the gap left by a missing tooth, giving the patient a comfortable wear and a beautiful smile.

Dental bridges improve chewing and speaking, ease stress on the bite, and cosmetic dental bridges can also help support your facial bone structure.

What is the procedure for the placement of dental bridges?
Dental bridges, regardless of type, will generally require two visits. In your first appointment, the dentist will prepare the teeth surrounding the gap, then take a mold and place a temporary cosmetic bridge.

The mold is used as a guide for the crafting of your cosmetic dental bridge. On your next appointment, the dentist will bond your dental bridge into place.

What are the different types of dental bridges?
Dentistry offers several types of dental bridges, which can be made of durable porcelain, gold, or composite materials.

There are three main types of dental bridges:

1. Traditional fixed bridges: this is the most commonly used type of bridge and consists of two cosmetic porcelain crowns that are anchoring the porcelain teeth or implants.
2. Resin bonded bridges or Maryland bonded bridges: this is an option when the gap to be filled is in between the front teeth and when the adjacent teeth on either side of the missing tooth do not have large fillings. The false tooth has two metal bands that are bonded to the adjacent teeth.
3. Cantilever bridges: these are mostly used for the front teeth as they are susceptible to lower stress. Cantilever bridges are used when the teeth present only one side of the space, as anchorage.

Randwick Dental Clinic provides some of the most advanced restorative dentistry treatments available. If you are interested in dental crowns, dental bridges or another treatment option at our offices in the Eastern Sydney suburb of Randwick contact us to schedule an appointment on 9314-5226.

When are dental bridges needed?

Bridges are recommended when there are one or more teeth missing that affect your:

• Smile and appearance
• Bite, as a result of adjacent teeth leaning into the space and altering the way the   upper and lower teeth bite together
• Speech
• Shape of your face
• Gum disease and tooth decay, as a result of food accumulated in the gap

How long will dental bridges last?
Dental bridges can last 10-15 years provided that you maintain good dental hygiene and eating habits.

How to take care of your cosmetic dental bridges?
Practice good dental hygiene:

• Clean the dental bridge every day and prevent tooth decay, bad breath and gum   disease
• Clean under the false tooth every day
• Keep the remaining teeth healthy as these serve as the foundation for the dental   bridge

If you exercise proper dental hygiene and visit your dentist for regular check ups, your cosmetic bridge can last for many years. Brushing and flossing are very important around all areas of the bridge and teeth. Woodsticks or interdental brushes may be of use to help maintain healthy and long lasting bridges.

How much do cosmetic dental bridges cost?
Cosmetic dental bridges can range in price from $1000 to $3000 per tooth based on the aforementioned factors dental insurance will typically pay a percentage of the fee depending on the individual dental plan.
